Foundations of Vision: Architecture & Imagination in Bozeman

Opening Reception on October 9th, 5-7pm

Exhibit Open October 13th – December 12th

Foundations of Vision explores Bozeman’s architectural past and future, inviting the community to consider how buildings shape civic identity and shared values. The exhibition begins with a look at the city’s architectural history, highlighting the influential early 20th-century architect Fred Willson through archival photographs and drawings that place his work within broader regional and national movements.

At its center are fourteen speculative design proposals created by university architecture students in response to the museum’s newly acquired site for a permanent home. These imaginative projects propose different possibilities for how a museum can serve as both a cultural landmark and a welcoming civic space, grounded in local history and landscape.

The exhibition also features personal artwork by local architects, revealing the creative thinking behind their professional work. A public lecture and panel discussion will extend the conversation, encouraging community dialogue about architecture’s essential role in shaping Bozeman’s future.
