Robert Osborn | The Street People of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation

ROBERT OSBORN has been photographing for nearly half a century.

In Southern California in the early 1970s he was involved in the origination of the sport of BMX. Mix into this period a passion to photograph and a talent for writing and you have the primary elements leading to his creation of BMX Action magazine in 1976 and Freestylin’ magazine in 1984. His photography and writing during these years had a profound influence on an entire generation of young men and women around the world; set the stage for the bicycle-oriented action sports of today; and contributed to the eventual inclusion of BMX racing and BMX freestyle into the International Olympic Games.

Fourteen years ago he began photographing Montana cowboys. In 2017 this work was published as an art photography book…”The Cowboys of Central Montana: 50 Portraits.”

Eight years ago he began photographing Indians of the Northern Plains. In 2017 he was invited to photograph the street people of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Northeastern Montana. In 2018 he was adopted into the Nakota Assiniboine Tribe of Montana’s Northern Plains.

The Street People of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation is Robert Osborns newest series and will be presented at Bozeman Art Museum in a solo exhibition opening March 28th. Osborn will be signing his new collection as photography books, published by Bozeman Art Museum Publishing Division, during the event.

Osborn has an art photography gallery in Livingston, Montana, where he has lived for the past twenty years.
